I recently learned of this ballade when I obtained this copy of L'Enfance du Christ, Berlioz's charming "accidental" oratorio. Berlioz wrote several versions of Sara la baigneuse (Sara bathing), this one for triple chorus and orchestra dating from 1850. His typical subtle ear for orchestration and timbre is present, as is a somewhat rare hint of frolicking jollity. It is nice to be able to bring a Berlioz work to the CCM which is not Symphonie fantastique, the Requiem, or The Damnation of Faust.
