Constant Lambert seems almost completely forgotten outside of the U.K. (except as the father of Christopher "Kit" Lambert). But he was a gifted composer, a fine pianist, and a well-known conductor. In his youth, he wrote with great verve and élan. The excerpt here — from the rather French-influenced Piano Concerto — was written in 1924, when Lambert was a mere 19 years old. |
