I recently ordered this 40-disc boxed set through my favorite online CD supplier, Berkshire Record Outlet, a must-know internet location for any serious classical musician (click here). While I am used to getting deeply discounted wares from BRO (they deal with closeouts and overruns), I was taken aback when I saw this collection for about $1 a disc. Though the packaging is really cheesy, and virtually screams "Greatest Hits of the Classical World, available now at CVS," the performances are all by top-flight artists, and the recording quality is quite good. Though I admit I have not, yet, made it through all 40 discs, the ones I have listened to so far have been worth the investment. And, even if you decide against getting the Schubert collection, at least you now know about BRO.
