If it weren't for their former director, Charles Dutoit, no one outside of Canada would have any idea who the Montreal Symphony Orchestra was. Thanks primarily to his leadership, however, the orchestra spent many happy years as one of the great orchestras in North America, if not the world. This old recording (originally from 1981) of Ravel's masterpiece, Daphnis et Chloé is one of the best ever committed to vinyl. Incidentally, it was one of the first CDs I ever bought. |
