I have heard several recordings of "Jauchzet Gott in allen Landen [Praise Ye God, In Ev'ry Nation]," Bach's cantata of nearly-delirious joy, but none capture the ebullience quite so well as this recording by Richter. Note how the tempo is delicately controlled and not too fast, preventing the performance from sounding frivolous or downright silly (unfortunately a fate of many recordings, including that of the inimitable and generally laudable Elizabeth Schwarzkopf). |
