The Magnificat has long been my favorite Vivaldi work. From the crushing "Et misericordia" to the fiery "Fecit potentiam," from the angelic "Esurientes" to the ebullient "Sicut locutus," the work has it all. And it's concise, too!

I have never found a complete recording that has knocked my socks off, but this capable one by the King's College folks is the best one I own. Have a listen to the end of the tormented "Et misericordia." Musicians, I tell you: some things still can surprise in the most wonderful ways.
