Satie is so well-known for his eccentricities, and his Gymnopédies and Gnossiennes, that it's sometimes a strain to remember that he wrote much other music (some of it excellent, but with jokey titles; others just excellent). This month, I bring you one of his sweet, evocative pieces, a miniature that says what it wants to say and then quickly finishes. No pizzazz, little in the way of irony, and no back-and-forth M7 chords ad infinitum à la the aforementioned Gymnopédies. |
