I had the pleasure of meeting Pulitzer Prize winner Yehudi Wyner at a concert last year (he sat behind me and my wife and we got into a conversation at intermission). I found him to be a warm, funny man with a great intellect. Until then, I had only known him by reputation, and had actually not heard any of his music. The work played at the concert was quite moving, and I was really pleased to find that, in a new batch of recordings which were recently bequeathed to me (nearly a hundred!), there were several Wyner recordings. I quickly got to listening to them and found them to be a lot of fun. Here is a selection from his stunning work, On This Most Voluptuous Night. You can read more about the work here. |
