What better way to ring in the New Year than with the chiming bells of Kodály's most famous work, the Háry János Suite. Though the rest of his compositional output has barely made a dent in the world's musical consciousness, this short, charming piece has secured itself a fixed place in the concert hall. The singspiel it is based on has even had several recent performances. Despite the cheesy title and silly album cover, this live performance by Rico Saccani and the Budapest Philharmonic is quite lovely. |
