I knew Gieseking's playing mainly through his recordings of French music. I was therefore a little cautious when I recently acquired his complete Mozart recordings. I needn't have been; I have been enjoying them a lot. These two 5-CD sets (!) show the imaginative, but controlled, playing which Gieseking does so well.
