As with Gunther Schuller, I ask myself of this month's composer, Charles Tomlinson Griffes, "what the heck took me so long to listen to his music?" I'd known his name, and had perhaps heard one or two pieces over the years, but this recording was the first time I'd sat and listened to a range of his works in one go. And I really liked what I heard. Here is a lovely short work which shows some really imaginative moments and interesting chromatic techniques.
