It's been over 14 years since Prokofiev last appeared in the CCM, so it's about time for a revisit. Initially baffling to the critics, his satirical opera, The Love for Three Oranges, eventually gained the respect it deserves as a fun, witty, and tuneful work. This month's clip is of one of the most famous 1½ minutes in Prokofiev's output: the celebrated March, which serves as an interlude between the first two scenes of Act II of the opera. Prokofiev had included it in a suite from the opera, and also made a piano arrangement of it, no doubt aiding in it becoming a staple of light-orchestral entertainment. |
