Eckardt, a co-founder of Ensemble 21, featured in this month's CCM, is a leading light in modern composition in NYC. His A Glimpse Retraced, sampled here, is a chamber concerto for piano and four instruments. The soloist in this recording is his Ensemble 21 co-founder, and dedicatee of the work, Marilyn Nonken. A stark work with striking, jagged opening gestures for the soloist, A Glimpse Retraced proceeds out from this "glimpse" to introduce the other instruments in all possible instrumental combinations, "tracing" the glimpse in a tour de force of control and expression.
