This month we visit Fidelio, Beethoven's one-and-only completed opera, and the quintessential example of the so-called "rescue opera." In this fine performance, led by the popular and able Simon Rattle, we hear the trio from Act II. Though Florestan's death is imminent, Leonore (Fidelio)'s asking to bring a crust of bread to the prisoner moves all to deep pity and concern.
