The A.B.O is, of course, famous for their J. S. Bach interpretations, but this wonderful recording shows that the most talented of Papa Bach's sons will not be neglected. Though the works are idiosyncratic perhaps without comparison, they are terrific on their own terms, and show the range of Bach's artistic and intellectual vision. Ton Koopman is well-equipped to deal with the music, and the A.B.O. is enthusiastic without becoming bombastic. The delicate passages are handled with terrific subtlety, but a quiet assurance is always apparent. This would be a really nice recording to get someone who is unfamiliar with C. P. E.'s orchestral music (or his music in general, for that matter).
